The French sure know how to cook.

I've been meaning to try my hand at another soup, so it worked out nicely when Jesse suggested that we make French onion soup. The ingredients were fairly simple and accumulated to probably $10 for 5 servings. The only ingredient I had difficulty locating was the beef consumme. I'm still not sure what it is, but I guess it was located in the same aisle as the beef stock. Jesse brought it I grabbed probably a pounds worth of a swiss cheese end from the deli, on discount for two bucks. A bag of onions was only 4 bucks, and will last me through several more onion-infused recipes.

Onions!

It doesn't look that appetizing, but it tasted so sweet and delicious!

Leftovahs

We began by chopping and cooking up the onions until they were nice and soft. We then added the liquid ingredients and played the waiting game for about 45 minutes. I'm not exactly sure why the soup had to be sitting for so long, I don't even think it was cooking at that point. To be honest, I was distracted for a large majority of the prep because I was cooking up some kale. When everything was good to go, we ate the kale by sipping it into our bowls of soup. Earlier that night we debated making a peanut sauce to go with the kale, but the sweet and salty flavors of the soup paired with kale leaves tasted better than either of us imagined. After dinner, we went to one of the five froyo shops that are a three block distance from my house. I don't know why that's a trend right now, but I like it.

We listened to the Book of Mormon soundtrack while cooking. Pure hilarity. I'm hoping to see the show in April, we'll see if that happens!
