Quick Quiche
Last week was quiche. Again, another dish that sounds really fancy and complicated, but it's not! Also, a sort of dinner-for-breakfast type of deal, which is actually pretty awesome.
This time, I served not one but three guests! Nick and Kait came with Eleni, it was an awesome guest list :). We had a candlelit dinner at our new dining table, complete with smooth jazz in the background and a youtube yule log to boot. #YOLO (I read somewhere that #YOLO is a stupid version of carpe diem. I agree wholeheartedly, but I felt that in lieu of pop culture, it could be used appropriately here)
Unfortunately, I made an ass out of myself by buying a pre-made GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST instead of ya know, the normal pie crust. But it actually wasn't too bad, it added a sweet touch to an otherwise salty, savory dish.
To make the quiche I used spinach, 11 medium-sized eggs, diced ham, and a can of chopped mushrooms, and took about 5 minutes to prepare and 45 minutes to cook in a 400 degree oven. Speaking of 400 degree oven, that bastard gave me my first of many battle wounds.
I served apple sauce as a side dish, because I really couldn't think of anything else to match up with it. Not too many typical side dishes go with quiche. Maybe salad. I also made my now-famous apple crisp for desert again, but added some chocolate easter eggs. Huge hit.
This meal cost me about $15 and fed four people. Not too shabby! If you want to be a taste-tester of one of my upcoming recipes, let me know! Because I live in the middle of nowhere on the north shore and you will have to go through many hardships to get here, and because I may one day fail at one of these dinners and you may head home with an empty stomach, dinner is FREE.99!
