An easy endeavor, but necessary to experience as a budding chef.
The most time consuming step of the process was cutting up the carrot and cucumber. I cheated a bit and bought the sticky white rice from the nearby Chinese food court, as making homemade sticky rice without a rice cooker didn't seem to be worth the headache. I was surprised to see that we only used one and a half carrots in the making of our 14 piece sushi!
My taste tester, Eleni, has had experience with sushi making from a Groupon splurge, so she knew what to do when it came time for the rolling. The rice-out sushi rolling method was by far the most difficult, as the sushi was so sticky that it stuck itself to everything, making it difficult to roll it up in a compact manner. We didn't have the wooden rug that's used for rolling up the sushi, but we made do with a pot holder inside a plastic bag. The ingredients cost about $7, including investing in seaweed paper and soy sauce.
Didn't learn any lessons this time around as the recipe was fairly easy, but I did re-learn of regretsy. Internet gold right there.
Til next time, little chefs!
